Exelis on-the-move mission systems for US Army
ADS has subcontracted Exelis to provide mission command on-the-move systems to the US military, as announced by Exelis on 23 February.
The subcontract was valued at $7.6 million, and is part of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Tailored Logistics Support (TLS) programme. Exelis will deliver its Global Network on the Move-Active Distribution (GNOMAD) systems by March 2015.
GNOMAD, based on an open system architecture, uses low profile antennae designs in a reduced size, weight and power profile. The systems provide broadband, satellite communication (SATCOM) on-the-move (SOTM) networked command and control connectivity. The modular, combat-proven communications system is compatible with various commercial SUVs and military ground platforms including armoured combat vehicles.
Nick Bobay, president, night vision and communications solutions division, Exelis, said: ‘GNOMAD is a proven mission essential command and control on-the-move solution ideal for the difficult communications environment that army units operate in daily while deployed. We have worked with ADS to have GNOMAD deployed again in a combat environment where ease of use, multiple vehicle integration and dependable communication are critical.'
The delivery also includes training and installation services and ground station satellite hubs, along with the ability to leverage commercial Ku and X Band satellite services on the Department of Defense Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) constellation. WGS certification will begin in the spring of 2015.
