Dubai Airshow 2019: E2-D set for new lease of life

The US Navy’s E2-D Advanced Hawkeye Airborne Early Warning (AEW) aircraft will first field an air-to-air refuelling capability in 2020, ahead of an anticipated number of new changes.

Despite manufacturer Northrop Grumman being unable to disclose specific modification plans to the Hawkeye, a spokesperson for the company confirmed to Shephard that a ‘roadmap for future capabilities’ is being funded by the US Navy for decades more.

‘It’s not only the E-2D that will be upgraded, it has to be able to plug in with the [Lockheed Martin] F-35 and [Boeing] F-18, with all the other weapons systems into the navy’s
