Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) has signed a contract with Malaysian shipbuilder, Boustead Naval Shipbuilding to provide communications for its new Littoral Combat Ships.

Signed at the Defence Services Asia exhibition, the contract will cover the delivery of IP-based integrated communications for the Malaysian Navy’s six new Second Generation Patrol Vessel – Littoral Combat Ship (SGPV-LCS).

R&S said that the core component of the communications system is their NAVICS technology. It is a VOIP-based switching system that connects voice terminals at different locations on a ship and all other internal and external communications subsystems via a standardised and redundant IP network.
