DLS gets MIDS JTRS Lot 4 award
Data Link Solutions (DLS) will supply the Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio System (MIDS JTRS) to US and coalition forces under a $51.8 million contract from the US Navy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command announced on 1 March.
The Lot 4 award covers radio systems for US forces and foreign military sales customers.
The MIDS JTRS has been designed to enhance battlefield communications for joint and coalition warfighters by providing the ability to communicate by voice, video, and data with a line-of-sight, jam-resistant capability across ground, air, and naval assets.
The US Navy and US Air Force are in the process of beginning to transition a number of platforms to MIDS JTRS.
Jack Stevens, director, DLS, said: ‘This award reflects our strong past performance meeting terminal deliveries and our commitment to providing the best value to our US and allied forces. This contract underscores DLS’s leadership in Link 16 airborne networking and provides the latest in certified, reprogrammable, software-defined radio architecture for tactical data links.’
Work for the order is expected to be completed by August 2017.
DLS is a joint venture of Rockwell Collins and BAE Systems.
