Comtech wins troposcatter terminal contract
Comtech Telecommunications subsidiary Comtech Systems has been awarded a contract worth around $7 million by an undisclosed foreign prime contractor to design and install several fixed troposcatter terminals, it was announced on 11 May.
The military end-customer will use the terminals for communications between off-shore islands.
Stanton Sloane, president and chief executive officer, Comtech Telecommunications, said: ‘This contract award demonstrates the importance of troposcatter technologies in the communications toolkit for modern militaries. Our troposcatter systems provide a unique low latency, beyond line of sight (BLOS) communications backhaul capability. Inherent system flexibility and scalability satisfy a wide variety of operational requirements, as well.
‘Equipment being acquired under this contract includes Comtech's world renowned troposcatter radio terminals equipped with our high-power solid state amplifiers.’
A troposcatter system is a point-to-point link requiring a terminal on each end, with each terminal transmitting and receiving. These systems provide data rates of up to 22Mbps, exceeding the rates of typical satellite communications. They have latencies of less than 15ms to reduce packet loss and communications issues.
