Pentagon points to Colombian's FARC deal as inspiration for Afghanistan
At a critical point between the Afghan government and Taliban's struggle to nail down a peaceful resolution to the 17-year violent conflict, a key US military leader is pointing toward Colombia's peace deal as an inspiration.
US Army Gen John Nicholson, the commander for Resolute Support and US forces in Afghanistan, discussed ongoing military operations inside the South Asian nation during a 30 May teleconference with reporters. The Pentagon has been downplaying questions about progress in the country after the release of a number of damning reports and an uptick in violence.
