Chinese policy seeks to weaponise the COVID-19 pandemic
This Geobukseon writer, as a young graduate student, was fortunate to be attending a US university that was visited by the then recently retired former ambassador to the USSR, Walter J. Stoessel. His last position when he left government service in 1982 had been deputy secretary of state, the number two billet in the State Department. Unknown at the time, he had very little left of his life, for he would die two short years later from leukaemia.
Stoessel served as US ambassador in Moscow and he was the main point of contact during some of the more historic backchannel
