USN shakes up aggressor squadrons

The USN is looking to enhance its aggressor training capabilities by adding new aircraft and making improvements to in-service platforms.

The USN currently operates four aggressor squadrons that fall under the command of its Reserve Tactical Support Wing (TSW). All four are about to undergo fleet enhancements to improve the training that they can deliver.

VFC-12 is based at NAS Oceana, Virginia, and together with VFA-204 at NAS – Joint Reserve Base New Orleans, Louisiana, the two squadrons fly a combined fleet of 27 legacy F/A-18A-D Hornets.

VFC-13 at NAS Fallon, Nevada and VFC-111 at NAS Key West, Florida, fly a joint fleet of 31 F-5N/F aircraft that replicate low- to mid-level threats.
