US Marine Corps evaluates Marathon Targets
Although initially looking at Marathon Targets’ robotic target in 2011, the US Marine Corps (USMC) is now conducting a field user assessment trial that is scheduled to be completed in December this year.
The trials are taking place at Twentynine Palms, Quantico and Camp Lejeune to assess the targets for possible large scale open source procurement in 2019.
‘Our tests in 2011 showed that the targets stood up well to a variety of different ammunition types and the current evaluation has seen improvements made to the target’s trafficability, [terrain performance] and speed,’ Col Walt Yates, USMC PM Training Systems told Shephard.
