Russia’s Baltic Fleet puts latest Ivan-Gren-class vessel to the test
Russian Baltic Fleet aircraft have participated in testing of the newest Russian Navy Ivan Gren-class amphibious ship, Petr Morgunov (Project 11711).
Su-30SM and Su-27 fighter aircraft took part along with Ka-27 helicopters to simulate the actions of airborne weapons travelling at various speeds, altitudes and distances.
The crew worked with industry representatives to perform assessments of the radio-technical equipment and the radar stations of the air defence systems onboard the ship.
Petr Morgunov was laid down in June 2015 at the Yantar Shipyard and was launched in May 2018. It finally began sea trials in December 2019 but they were postponed for unknown reasons until May 2020.
The Ivan Gren-class amphibious assault ships are designed to undertake landing operations and can provide assistance to humanitarian operations.
