Bluedrop Training and Simulation has received a contract to deliver a virtual reality CH-148 Rescue Hoist Simulator for the training of the Royal Canadian Air Force’s (RCAF) maritime helicopter community, the company announced on 9 January.
The equipment will be delivered to the RCAF’s 12 Wing Shearwater in Nova Scotia.
The simulator will provide maritime crews the ability to complete mission-specific hoist and crew communication evolutions in operationally relevant environments.
The simulator will enhance crew readiness at reduced risk and cost while maximising the value of flight operations. Bluedrop will work with 12 Wing to modify simulator capabilities to address basic and advanced crew training requirements.
Jean-Claude Siew, vice president of technology and simulation, Bluedrop, said: ‘We are very pleased to continue our work with the maritime helicopter community, supporting their operations with this state-of-the-art training device.
'As Bluedrop is already a proud partner in the CH-148 training programme through the provision of instructors and courseware, this project underlines our extensive capabilities as a complete training systems integrator.’

The company will operate in two new locations in the coming years to better support US services.
This type of tool provides more realistic training easing the incorporation of new scenarios that accurately represent the threats of the battlefield.
The Engineering Corps has been conducting individual instruction using FLAIM Systems’ Sweeper and should start collective deployments in 2025.
The next-generation platform is motion-compatible and can be used in OTW and NVG applications.
The system can be used to prepare soldiers for both drone offensive operations and CUAS missions.
