Australia invests in armour training
As operational capabilities grow for the Australian Army, so does the level of sophisticated training needed to support them — hence the creation of a brand new Armoured Vehicle Simulation Centre in Townsville, Queensland.
The three-storey, A$31 million ($24 million) facility will support training of 3rd Brigade soldiers at Lavarack Barracks with the upgraded M1 Abrams MBT (in Project Land 907 Phase 2), as well as incoming armoured vehicle capabilities in the Land 400 and Land 8160 programmes.
3 Brigade is a combined arms formation comprising an armoured regiment, two infantry battalions and supporting artillery, engineer and signals elements.
