The OCCAR programme to upgrade Tiger combat helicopter aircrew training facilities for the French and German armed forces is now complete, Thales announced on 13 November.

Thales and Rheinmetall Electronics were awarded the programme to upgrade Tiger combat helicopter aircrew training facilities by OCCAR in 2014. Under the project, two new simulators were delivered to the French 1st Helicopter Regiment in Phalsbourg to fill a capability gap; and 20 Tiger Aircrew Training Means (TATM) simulators at the Ecole Franco-Allemande in Le Luc, the German regiment in Fritzlar, and two French regiments in Pau and Phalsbourg, were renovated.

Simulator avionics, sensors, armament and visionics have been updated to the latest German (UHT Step 2 Krypto) and French (HAD Block 2) Tiger standards. The work also added new instruction station capabilities, improved the display system, and integrated the latest Thales visual and Computer Generated Forces software to provide the highest immersive training environment possible.

The completion of the upgrade process culminated with a binational joint exercise at the École Franco-Allemande.

The 20 upgraded Tiger simulators will continue to be supported by Thales and Rheinmetall Electronics.
