Cubic tailors mortar simulator for the US Army
The company’s mortar trainer received improvements based on soldier’s feedback.
Meggitt Training Systems has been awarded a $1.49 million contract for simulated mortars by the Australian Defence Force’s Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group, it was announced on 17 August.
Under the contract, Meggitt will operate, maintain, install and produce additional 81mm simulated mortars at multiple locations to support the Regular Army Infantry Battalions and Army Reserve Light Batteries.
The mortars will be used to train and test commanders, fire controllers, command post operators and mortar men in mortar operations, procedures, techniques and tactics.
Deliveries are expected to take place in May 2017 and June 2017 with installation to follow shortly thereafter.
Chris Jordan, managing director, Meggitt Training Systems Australia, said: ‘We have installed, maintained and operated the Weapon Training Simulation Systems in Australia since 1999 and most recently installed Meggitt 81mm mortar simulators at four sites during 2016.’

The company will operate in two new locations in the coming years to better support US services.
This type of tool provides more realistic training easing the incorporation of new scenarios that accurately represent the threats of the battlefield.
The Engineering Corps has been conducting individual instruction using FLAIM Systems’ Sweeper and should start collective deployments in 2025.
The next-generation platform is motion-compatible and can be used in OTW and NVG applications.
The system can be used to prepare soldiers for both drone offensive operations and CUAS missions.
