Global air forces to integrate training for fifth gen aircraft

Increasing numbers of air forces are looking towards integrating live, virtual and constructive domains in an effort to re-balance their training to accommodate fifth-generation aircraft such as the F-35.

The UK is due to down select two finalists from the current four bidders for its Defence Operational Training Capability (Air) Core System and Services (DCS&S) programme in the coming few months. Contract award is expected in January 2019.

The programme, managed by the Flight Simulation and Synthetic Trainers Project Team, part of Defence Equipment and Support, ‘seeks to fill a demonstrated capability gap that prevent air force elements training
