Airbus D&S orders MRTT FFS
Airbus Defence and Space has signed a contract with Indra for the development and supply of a Full Flight Simulator (FFS) for the A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft, the company announced on 22 June.
Under the contract a Level D FFS will be installed at the Airbus Defence and Space International Training Centre in Seville. The simulator will support the training of crew on the MRTT, providing pilot flight-training as well as training in hose-and-drogue refuelling operations and receiver operations from other tankers.
The simulator is scheduled to enter service in the second quarter of 2018.
Stephan Miegel, head of military aircraft services at Airbus Defence and Space, said: ‘This investment will improve the quality of the training that we offer, reduce its cost, and enable us to offer a more comprehensive support product. It offers the opportunity of greatly reducing the amount of aircraft flight hours required to train air-to-air refuelling (AAR) crews.
'We are also examining the most cost-effective way to link the FFS to a part-task trainer that would allow training of complete crews on AAR using the refuelling boom system in addition to hose-and-drogue.'
