ADECS 2019: PLA emphasises force-on-force training

The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is investing a lot of effort to improve the training of personnel, with the overarching goal to make combat training more realistic. For decades the PLA has lamentably engaged in rigidly structured and scripted exercises.

One example of the new mind-set that the PLA is trying to introduce was revealed by a CCTV report aired in mid-January. In the report, a combined-arms brigade of the 81st Group Army in the Central Theatre reflected on its training iteration at the Zhurihe training area in Inner Mongolia.
