Vietnam chooses Israeli SAM
In the latest sales success for Rafael’s SPYDER surface-to-air missile (SAM) system, Vietnam has emerged as a buyer of the Israeli weapon.
Confirmation of Vietnam’s adoption of the SPYDER came recently from LtGen Le Huy Vinh, commander of the country’s air defence force. The Israeli contender defeated the Pantsir-S1.
Details on numbers and the price paid are not available, and Rafael did not respond to Shephard’s request for confirmation of the deal. It is also unclear whether Vietnam is acquiring the short-range (SPYDER-SR) or medium-range (SPYDER-MR) version. However, the SAM system will combine with Elta
