UK studies joining European tank effort
Despite its imminent break up with the European Union the UK government has not ruled out involvement in future European defence projects, including the development a new main battle tank.
Last week, the French and German governments signed letters of intent for both a Future Combat Air System and a Main Ground Combat System (MGCS), with the latter likely seeing the deployment of a new European MBT by 2035.
The two countries will begin a joint MGCS demonstration phase by mid-2019, with firm requirements likely to be known by 2024. Germany is currently the lead nation for the new European
