Thailand wants more tanks
The Royal Thai Army (RTA) wants to buy more main battle tanks (MBT), with Chinese and Russian offerings are most likely at this point.
The RTA has set a budget of $249 million from FY2016-19 for 51 new MBTs. The RTA needs to replace more than 200 M41 light tanks slowly being phased out.
In 2011 the RTA ordered 49 T-84 Oplot-M MBTs, two armoured recovery vehicles and a simulator for approximately $202 million. The first five Oplot-Ms reached Thailand in February 2014, and five more last June. More will be delivered this year, but conflict in Ukraine has caused serious
