Hybrid-electric drive technology may address the growing energy demands of land warfare in future.
Taiwan’s military paraded a number of new types of equipment, including communications vehicles, missile systems, radars and helicopters, on 4 July to mark the 70th anniversary of the defeat of Japan in World War Two.
The Defence Capabilities Review, presided over by President Ma Ying-jeou, unveiled the CS/VRC-518 communication system. Mounted on a HMMWV chassis the radio, dubbed the Taiwan Digital Mobile Subscriber System (pictured above), was developed by the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST). The vehicle features a pneumatically raised and lowered antenna, with nine units delivered to the Republic of China Army so far.
