Thai army chooses light howitzers from France
The new light howitzer from France was chosen due to its automatic direction-finding and fire control systems.
The Royal Thai Army (RTA) has selected Nexter to supply a batch of 12 LG1 Mk III 105mm light artillery pieces, with the army’s Ordnance Department announcing the winner on 27 November 2020.
The Thai bidding was conducted by United Defense Technology. An amount of THB834 million ($27.8 million) will be allocated from the 2020-22 budget, and the contract is scheduled to be signed soon.
The deal will include the howitzers as well as an automatic direction-finding system, equipment and tools, primary spare parts and equipment, field and factory-level maintenance parts and automatic fire control.
