Spanish Army demonstrates indigenous NBC system to NATO members
The Spanish Army has demonstrated an indigenously developed NBC system to NATO allies. Called Atila (Antivirus por Iluminación de Luz Ultravioleta Autónomo in Spanish), it uses ultraviolet (UV) radiation to neutralise or destroy bacteria and viruses, including COVID-19.
Atila was showcased during a virtual meeting of the NATO Joint Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Defence Capability Development Group (JCBRND-CDG) in late October.
This system was designed and manufactured by the Engineering Headquarters of the Army Logistics Support Command (JIMALE) with the Army’s Engineers Material Maintenance Park and Centre.
However, for the time being there are no plans to commercialise the system
