PLA modernises its artillery inventory
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) continues to introduce new armoured vehicles and artillery pieces at a fast clip. The Chinese army still possesses a lot of legacy equipment, but furious production is seeing a lot of modernisation occurring, especially in areas such as Tibet and Xinjiang where tensions exist.
A relatively new artillery piece is a 122mm SPH based on the Mengshi CTL181A 6x6 chassis. Shephard reported in October 2020 that the type was undergoing field trials, and video footage of the same system aired by CCTV on 8 December seems to indicate it is now in service.
