Caracal scrambles to hold onto Indian carbines
Caracal of the UAE, unwilling to relinquish a major deal for 93,895 CAR816 5.56mm carbines for the Indian Army, is now offering to build 100% of the weapons in India.
A week earlier, the Indian MoD cancelled its prospective deal for the carbines, which are needed to replace the antiquated 9mm Sterling submachine gun and INSAS rifle. Caracal had been selected by India for a fast-track procurement in September 2018, one that had spluttered along for two years and seemingly reached an impasse.
