Phantom MRAP seen in Thailand
The Royal Thai Marine Corps (RTMC) recently concluded a three-month trial of a new MRAP vehicle in southern Thailand, it has emerged.
The prototype, named the Phantom 380-X, was first publicly revealed during the Thai-US joint exercise Cobra Gold 2014.
Initiated as a development programme, the indigenous Phantom 380-X is produced by Panus Assembly, Thailand’s largest truck body and trailer manufacturer.
Cooperating with D-Corps Asia, the company began designing a multipurpose military truck, which led to the Phantom 380-X. The MRAP-style vehicle has a V-shaped hull tailored to operations in Thailand’s three insurgency-plagued southernmost provinces.
