Lithuania orders more Javelins
The Lithuanian Armed Forces will receive more Javelin medium-range anti-tank missiles, launchers and associated equipment in 2024.
This $10 million order is the latest for Javelin from Lithuania, which already has 124 of the missiles in its inventory according to Shephard Defence Insight.
In all, the Lithuanian MoD plans to acquire an additional US$104 million worth of Javelin missiles by 2030.
The FGM-148 Javelin man-portable fire-and-forget missile automatically guides itself to the target after launch, and its soft launch capability means that it can be safely fired from inside buildings and bunkers. Its tandem warhead is capable of attacking its reactive armour-equipped MBTs head-on at ranges of 75-2,500m, or from 150m above to strike at weak points such as a tank hatch.
