Japan creates Ground Component Command
The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) established a new Ground Component Command on 27 March to unify its five existing armies: the Northern, Northeastern, Eastern, Middle and Western Armies. This move will centralise the operation of JGSDF troops.
The Ground Component Command Headquarters, located in Camp Asaka in Tokyo, comprises around 300 personnel.
The new command will incorporate the Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade, 1st Airborne Brigade, 1st Helicopter Brigade, System Signal Brigade, Central Readiness Regiment, Special Forces Group and Military Intelligence Command under its direct control. The Central Regiment Force will be abolished by this reorganisation.
