Finland fires Crotale NG with new camera
The Finnish Defence Force has carried out a live firing of its Crotale New Generation (NG) short-range air defence system equipped with a new Catherine XP thermal camera, Thales announced on 8 June.
Thales supplied the Catherine XP camera within the framework of a support contract of the Crotale’s optronic target acquisition and tracking capability. The camera provides real-time imagery to support decision making in the event of an air threat.
The test firing, with a VT1 missile, was carried out at a Finnish Defence Force training range in order to demonstrate the capabilities of the Crotale NG equipped with the Catherine XP camera. According to Thales, it proved the accuracy and robust performance of the system.
