L3 Communications Australia has received a contract to provide equipment for the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN's) SEA 1180 Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs), the company announced on 16 April.

The company will supply integrated communications, bridge, navigation and platform management systems for the 12 OPVs being built for the RAN.

L3 Communications was selected by Luerssen Australia, the prime contractor for the programme.

Alan Titheridge, managing director of L3 Technologies Australia Group, said: ‘The OPV’s design, coupled with L3’s innovative systems solutions, will offer enhanced operational performance to the RAN.

'The ongoing industrial collaboration on the SEA 1180 programme helps the RAN to significantly boost its patrol and deterrence capabilities alongside allied forces throughout the Asia-Pacific region.’
