Thales reaches IOC on Qatar SATCOM
Thales has made headway on its contract to supply the Qatar Armed Forces with a military satellite communications system, with Initial Operational Capability (IOC) now delivered, the company announced on 25 November.
Thales was awarded the contract in October 2014 to provide the ground segment system needed to transmit and receive communications via satellite, and process data on the ground.
By offering a solution based on available and mature technology IOC has now been reached, consisting of the deployment of a preliminary satellite ground segment. The system is based on Thales’ highly protected modem technology and enables transmission with Qatar’s legacy communications network.
With the system now available for operational use, Thales expects to complete work on the programme in 2016.
