Thales is
analysing logged data from the recent Formidable Shield ballistic missile defence (BMD) exercise to see if modifications made to its SMART-L Multi Mission (MM) radar can be used for
further technology enhancements.
The Formidable Shield exercise saw a Terrier-Oriole missile launched from the Hebrides, Scotland, which was intercepted by a US Navy SM-3 missile using data from the SMART-L MM. The Thales Nederland-developed radar was modified for the exercise and detected the target in its early stages.
