TechNet South 2012: ITT Exelis emphasizes SINCGARS modernisation enhancements

ITT Exelis used the TechNet Land Forces – South event to highlight efforts to modernise the SINCGARS radio system.

Tony Tabler, director of business development at ITT Exelis, pointed to the fact that more than 400,000 SINCGARS ASIP [Advanced System Improvement Program] radios will be in the US inventory through to 2028.

‘The VHF waveform is tried and true,’ he observed, adding, ‘We’re not talking about buying more radios but rather maintaining the radios that are in the force through modernisation.’

One of the new modernisation products on display is the RT-1947.

‘This is a SINCGARS beaconing capability,’ Tabler explained.
