Spain kicks off tactical comms modernisation study

The Spanish MoD has initiated a study to consider the future tactical communications capabilities for both the army and navy, defence sources have disclosed.

According to official sources, the MoD has already devised an initial set of requirements which is currently being distributed to departments internally. Once approved, the programme will be handed over to the MoD’s Directorate General of Armaments and Materiel for execution.

The Spanish armed forces currently operate the Thales PR4G tactical radio system which provides force components with simultaneous voice and IP capabilities.
