Russian reconnaissance radar launched

The Russian MoD has completed testing and evaluation on a new radar called Pika-M and has started production.

Built by Russia’s United Instrument-Manufacturing Corporation (UIMC), the Pika-M is advertised by as a fourth-generation side-looking radar system for equipping reconnaissance aircraft and UAVs. 

It is tailored for detection of military-specific targets such as roads, airfields, bunkers, strongholds and all classes of battlefield combat vehicles. 

Radar information is processed in real time and there is the function for so-called ‘telescopic surveillance’ (in the zoom mode), which provides resolution of some 30cm. Using this mode, the radar is advertised as able to
