RNZAF seeks SATCOM for Orions
Plans to buy a new commercial SATCOM system for the New Zealand Air Force's (NZAF's) six P-3K2 Orion maritime patrol aircraft have taken a step forward.
New Zealand’s MoD told Shephard that seven companies have responded to an RfI for the new system that will replace the existing SATCOM.
The RfI, which was issued in March with a deadline was on 29 May, was replied to by: Airwork, L3, Lockheed Martin, Maser Defence, Orbit Communication Systems, ViaSat and Wright Satellite Connections.
The Lockheed Martin-built Orions of the RNZAF use a Rockwell Collins 2100 core system with Inmarsat Swift64 commercial SATCOM system to facilitate air-ground connectivity
