Orbital bags proximity sensor order
Orbital ATK has been awarded a $16 million order for its DSU-33D/B proximity sensors, with deliveries to begin in mid-2016, it announced on 19 May. The direct commercial sales order was placed with an undisclosed international customer.
The DSU-33D/B proximity sensor is an active, all-weather radio-frequency ranging sensor that can sense the height of a weapon above a target zone for maximum weapon system effectiveness. Orbital has delivered over 155,000 fuzes to the US Navy, US Air Force (USAF) and other allied nations.
The company recently began production of the Hard Target Void Sensing Fuze for the USAF, and is developing a next-generation all-purpose bomb fuze.
Pat Nolan, vice president and general manager, missile products division, defense systems group, Orbital ATK, said: 'Orbital ATK is proud to be a valued partner in developing, producing, and supporting advanced sensors and related solutions for the US and its allies.
'The DSU-33 sensor has been a key part of US and allied arsenals for well over a decade.'
