NATO is urging for closer engagement between militaries and industry in a bid to combat the increasing number and sophistication of cyber attacks from both national and non-state actors.

Jens Stoltenberg, NATO secretary General, speaking at the Cyber Defence Pledge Conference in London on 23 May said it was ever more important to ‘harness potential benefits of new technology’ against cyber-attacks which are becoming ‘more frequent, more complex and more destructive’.

He added that AI and machine learning were fundamentally changing the nature of warfare as ‘much as the industrial revolution did’.
