German Army looks to ‘smart’ weapon sights

The German Army is preparing to evaluate Elbit Systems’ SmartSight digital weapon sight as it considers how the technology could support dismounted close combat troops operating in urban environments.

Speaking to Shephard at the AFCEA event in Bonn, Germany in April, officials from local distributor Telefunken Racoms explained how an undisclosed number of SmartSights would be demonstrated to the potential customer in July.

With a total of just six SmartSights manufactured to date, the German Army demonstration appears to represent the first evaluation of the technology outside Israel and the IDF.
