Defence manufacturer Leonardo has used this year’s Farnborough airshow to lift the lid on several new electronic systems for the aerial domain.
The new products include an upgrade of the mechanically-scanned (M-Scan) Grifo radar, which sees the integration of active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology. The Grifo-E leverages work done by Leonardo in the UK on the latest-generation Captor-E radar for the Eurofighter Typhoon, while also building on the existing Grifo architecture developed in Italy.
The Grifo-E is seen as a cost-effective fire control radar for fighter aircraft, allowing air forces to enhance the detection and fire control
