Farnborough 2018: Italy launches the International Flight Training School
Leonardo and the Italian Air Force have signed a collaboration agreement to create an International Flight Training School (IFTS) based largely on the current assets of the latter’s 61st Wing at Galatina Air Base in Lecce, Italy.
Four additional Italian T-346 aircraft, known as the M-346 by the company, will be provided by Leonardo and training at IFTS is expected to commence in 2019. Leonardo said that it has been in discussion with Babcock International and CAE, ‘to reinforce IFTS capabilities’.
The 61st Wing already conducts some pilot training for Argentina, Austria, France, Greece, Kuwait, Netherlands, Spain and USA.
