Cost saving focus for future satellites

Improved technology and innovation were key to cost efficiency in future satellite programmes, according to senior Boeing officials.

Speaking to journalists at the Boeing Satellite Development Centre in El Segundo, California, Dan Hart, VP of Government Space Systems at Boeing, explained that smaller satellites which make the most effective use of launch aircraft and payload capacity was a future pursuit for Boeing. 

Maximising the number of missions each satellite can carry out was also seen as key to cost effectiveness, although there were limits to the scope and number depending on the platform.
