Avalon 2017: First Growler screams into Australia

28th February 2017 - 10:58 GMT | by Gordon Arthur in Melbourne

RSS

The Royal Australian Air Force's (RAAF) first pair of Boeing EA-18G Growler airborne electronic attack aircraft made their public debut on 28 February as the highlight of day one of the Avalon Air Show near Melbourne.

Both Defence Minister Marise Payne and the RAAF chief Air Marshal Leo Davies were on hand to welcome the Growlers to Australia, a fleet that will eventually grow to 12 by midyear. The Growler is the air force's first ever dedicated electronic warfare aircraft.

The RAAF is the first, and so far the only, nation to adopt the EA-18G outside the US Navy (USN).
