Opinion: Syria entrenchment risks regional war
In recent weeks, two fighter jets— one Israeli, the other Russian— were shot down in and around Syrian airspace in separate incidents. They represent a significant escalation of regional tensions and highlight the delicate situation in Syria, and— should relations between parties deteriorate further and more flashpoints occur— the long-term consequences of these two attacks could turn a volatile civil war into a sizeable regional conflict.
