Malaysia’s defence budget sets out major procurement goals for 2026
The country has allocated RM21.70 billion for defence spending next year, with some major procurements set to be initiated across the country’s army, navy and air force.
BAE Systems provided further details of its planned upgrade of the Republic of Korea Air Force’s (RoKAF’s) KF-16C/D fleet at ADEX 2013, revealing that it was confident a contract would be finalised before the end of the year.
The company beat a bid from aircraft OEM Lockheed Martin for the work on the South Korean fighters when it was selected to perform an upgrade of the avionics and weapon systems of the fleet in mid-2012. The deal was reported to be worth Won 1.8 trillion and will involve the upgrade of some 134 aircraft by 2021.
