ADAS: Philippines president sets out military priorities
The Philippines current bout of military modernisation is meant to improve the country’s disaster response and territorial defence, and should be viewed in that light by the countries, President of the Philippines Benigno Aquino was keen to stress at the opening ceremony of ADAS 2014 on 17 July.
‘Our efforts seek to modernise the capabilities of our security sector to address the needs in human disaster response arenas and for our own internal defence. None of these actions are meant to increase tensions in the region; rather, they are meant to address our domestic problems and issues,’ Aquino stated.
