Avalon 2019: Rafael wants to Spike Australian helicopters and add SPICE
Last August the Australian Army selected the Spike LR2 multipurpose missile for the Boxer 8x8 armoured vehicle under Land 400 Phase 2, and it has also specified it for Phase 3 for the army’s future IFV. Subsequently, Rafael was busy promoting the Spike for Australian helicopters at the Avalon Air Show near Melbourne.
When ground-launched the Spike LR2 has a 5.5km range, but this rises to 6.5km when fired from an airborne helicopter. On the other hand, the fire-and-forget Spike ER2 offers a 10km or 16km range respectively depending on whether it is ground- or air-launched.
