New AMRAAM sale to Japan moves closer
Japan is set to receive more AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM, after the US State Department gave the green light for Raytheon Missile Systems to sell 32 of the missiles for an estimated cost of $63 million.
The Japanese government is also requesting one AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM guidance section spare, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced on 26 August.
Shephard last month identified the AIM-120C-8 as a potential weapon for inclusion in the F-15 Japan Super Interceptor modernisation programme.
According to Shephard Defence Insight, 92 AIM-120C-8 missiles were previously delivered to Japan.
