Upgrade for E-4B transmission system
Rockwell Collins has been selected by Boeing to upgrade a low-frequency transmission system used on the E-4B command and control aircraft operated by the US Air Force, the company announced on 23 July.
The E-4B aircraft connects US command authorities to strategic strike assets and launch control centres in all levels of conflict. The E-4B's secondary missions include VIP travel support and providing support for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which provides communications for natural disaster relief efforts.
Troy Brunk, vice president and general manager, airborne solutions, Rockwell Collins, said: 'This selection continues our heritage of providing the US military with strategic command and control systems.
'We're continuing our strong relationship with Boeing by providing reliable, survivable and endurable communications between the President and our nation's nuclear forces.'
The upgrade work will take place at Rockwell Collins' facility and complete by 30 September 2016.
