SAS14: AACUS completes first phase test

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) has completed the first flight test programme of its five year Autonomous Aerial Cargo/Utility System (AACUS) effort, it has been revealed.

The first 18-month element of the test programme resulted in a week long test in Quantico, Virginia, two weeks ago, during which Lockheed Martin’s K-Max UAV and Aurora Flight Sciences with the AH-6 Unmanned Little Bird (ULB) demonstrated their ability to autonomously fly and land on an undetermined spot whilst avoiding obstacles.
